I can develop an understanding of the concept of regions by learning about the four physical regions of Texas: Mountains and Basins, Great Plains, North Central Plains, Coastal Plains.
Students will draft a personal narrative that includes an introduction/conclusion, beginning/middle/end, and relevant details that support their message. Students then reflect on their drafts and how closely they connect to their planning.
I can round multi-digit numbers to the hundred thousands place.
I can demonstrate if the answer to a problem is reasonable using estimation.
I can fill in a plot map, while reading a story, with plot elements including characters, setting, problem, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
I can measure the mass of objects by using a bucket balance and triple beam balance, and compare the accuracy of the measurements.
I can give information to a partner using the words balance, mass, grams, and matter.

Slaughter Elementary will be participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. If your child would like to donate $1 on Fridays, they can wear a hat to school. At the end of the year, we will donate all money raised to the American Cancer Society. Have your child give their dollar to their teacher. Thanks so much for your support!

We are so proud of our refreshed school building! Take a look at the article posted by the district communication department: https://www.mckinneyisd.net/news-events/article/a-new-look-and-a-fresh-beginning-for-slaughter-elementary-after-summer-building-update/
All students brought home a School Store Online fundraiser packet with information about our current school fundraiser. All fundraising will be done online. Look for all of the directions about creating an account online and how to earn money for our school. When you sign up, you'll be given a code to write on a form to send back to school to get a participation prize. No money is required to get the "thank you" for participating prize. This fundraiser will last all year long, so you'll have many opportunities to support our school for very minimal effort and expense.
Mark your calendars: September 1st and September 4th are student holidays. School will be closed on these days.
