State testing dates are coming up in April. On these days, it's extremely important that all students are present and on time, and we want everyone to know that visitors are not allowed in the building. We want to protect the testing environment so students are able to focus and do their best!  Mark your calendars for the following dates: 3rd-5th STAAR Reading: April 11, 5th STAAR Science: April 18, 3rd-5th STAAR Math: April 23.

Our PTO is going to join forces with our Relay for Life team to raise money for both worthwhile causes!  The PTO's Fun Run in May will be a fundraiser for the PTO, and the PTO will give 10% of the profit PTO earns from the Fun Run to Slaughter's Relay for Life team.  #inittogether  The Fun Run event will be Thursday, May 9 during specials

This year's Earth Day Recycled Art Contest theme is STEAM-focused.... we're hosting an INVENTION CONVENTION!  All students will be challenged to think of a problem, invent something to solve the problem or make things better or easier, and design and build a model of their invention using only recyclable materials according to the City of McKinney guidelines.  All projects are due April 30th at 8AM.  There will be prizes for 3 winners in each grade and 1 overall grand prize winner!  We cannot wait to see what our young inventors create!

There will not be school on Monday, April 15 and Monday April 29. These days were reserved as bad weather day make-up days but were not needed this year. Enjoy the long weekends!

Join Mrs. Walker's weekly enrichment summer camp, Fairy Tech Quest, running from June 3rd to July 12th, catering to kids in 1st to 4th grade. Slaughter now has access to a positive character development program called “Character Strong-Purposeful People” for teachers to use during community circle time. Please read the introduction letter linked here to learn more! Monthly family newsletters will be linked about the skills and strengths being taught each month. Each letter will include some ways to build these skills at home, discussion starters, and fun challenges you can try with your family. The positive character trait for the month of January is perseverance.
