McKinney ISD Guidance/Counseling
Motto: Helping students create an anchor for life.
Mission: The MISD counselors are a diverse group of service oriented professionals who believe in connecting our students, parents, schools and community with tools and resources for academic, social, and emotional success.
Beliefs: MISD Counselors champion the core beliefs of MISD through a focus on: Individualized success, Social connections, Respect & Responsibility, Emotional well-being and personal growth, Academic achievement and planning for the future.
The McKinney ISD comprehensive guidance and counseling program is designed to support the learning experience in each of these areas for all students. Our program follows the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs as well as elements of the ASCA model to fulfill the requirements in TEC 33.006 and TEC 33.007.
***School counselors do not provide therapy or long-term counseling in schools. Our counseling interventions are limited to the activities described in the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs under individual planning and responsive services or to those specified by other state (see TEC §33.006) and federal laws. However, school counselors are prepared to recognize and respond to student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking resources.
I perform the following roles in order to promote positive development in academic, career, and personal/social development:
Individual short term goal focused counseling
Small group short term goal focused counseling
Classroom guidance using positive character traits
Observe students in various school environments
Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and students
Respond to school crises or emergency situations
Provide information and resources to parents on a variety of issues
