In your student's portfolio you will find a permission form that will have their screen name and the parent code for Artsonia. In order for their artwork to be published in our galleries they must have permission. The form will have instructions on how to grant permission online. If you do not have access to a computer just send the slip back to me with a signed note on the back stating your permission and I can grant permission for you! Students will be learning to photograph and upload their own work along with writing and publishing an artist's statement. You can select the Artsonia icon on the left to find more information. If you have already granted permission it will be good for their entire time at Slaughter
CHOICE-BASED ART EDUCATION regards students as artists and offers them real choices for responding to their own ideas and interests through the making of art. This concept supports multiple modes of learning and teaching for the diverse needs of students. The learning environment provides resources and opportunities to construct knowledge and meaning in the process of making art.
My name is Kathleen Zeigler and I am the art teacher at Slaughter Elementary. I have had the privilege of teaching art at Slaughter for 18 years and couldn't ask for a better campus. I had not realized what a powerful phrase, "In It Together", could be until I joined the Slaughter family!
I am originally from Indianapolis, Indiana but have lived in Texas with my husband and 2 kids since 1990. I received my bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Purdue University with a minor in Early Childhood Education. When I moved to Texas I completed the requirements for certifications in K-12 Art, Elementary Self-Contained, and ESL. I knew in 1st grade I wanted to be an art teacher so I am truly able to say dreams do come true!
I have always believed that art is an essential part of every student's education. I tell my students it is much more than learning to make a pretty picture, it is giving them skills for a future they can only imagine. For more information supporting why I think the arts are so important please visit my Arts Advocacy page.
