All students and staff are invited to dress up as a favorite storybook character on Tuesday, April 2 in honor of International Children's Book Day and April being School Library Month! Dress code and PE shoes still apply.
April 12 is National Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R) Day. This year, we're going to dedicate this day in honor of Ms. Gregg. Ms. Gregg had a deep love of reading and a passion for teaching students to also love reading. Everyone is invited to wear their DG shirt or a Dallas Cowboys shirt in her honor on Friday, April 12.
This year's Earth Day Recycled Art Contest theme is STEAM-focused.... we're hosting an INVENTION CONVENTION! All students will be challenged to think of a problem, invent something to solve the problem or make things better or easier, and design and build a model of their invention using only recyclable materials according to the City of McKinney guidelines. All projects are due April 30th at 8AM. There will be prizes for 3 winners in each grade and 1 overall grand prize winner! We cannot wait to see what our young inventors create!

We're partnering with H-E-B to collect plastic bags for recycling March 11-April 11! Bags can be from any retailer. We will be in competition with other schools around the metroplex to collect the most bags! Bags will be organized into groups of 25 if you'd like to pre-count and group at home. Slaughter now has access to a positive character development program called “Character Strong-Purposeful People” for teachers to use during community circle time.
