Important Information

Starting as early as preschool and kindergarten, regular attendance is essential for students gaining the academic and social skills they need to thrive. Research shows that when students are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the school year or 18 days over an entire year), they are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school and graduate from high school. Attendance Matters!

The Chick-fil-A Spirit Night will be January, 30th from 5-7PM.  Eat at the Chick-fil-A at 380 & 75 between 5-7PM, and tell them you're from Slaughter so our school will get a donation.

The library's "Read Around the World" program has begun! This program runs throughout January. The Read Around the World program is for all students in grades K through 5. The program's goals include encouraging students to read books from different genres or on different topics than they might normally choose and to promote learning about people, land, animals, cultures, traditions, etc. from around the world!  Students can pick up a passport to collect stamps on when they visit the library anytime throughout the month of January.

Every Friday, students are invited to donate $1 to Slaughter's Relay for Life team, to wear a hat to school.

Each middle school in MISD is having a rising 6th grade parent information night on Tuesday, February 13th at 6 pm.

Next week Slaughter is participating in the Great Kindness Challenge. The Great Kindness Challenge is a global movement intended to make our schools, communities, and world a kinder and more compassionate place for all. All students will receive a kindness checklist to encourage acts of kindness!

Slaughter now has access to a positive character development program called “Character Strong-Purposeful People” for teachers to use during community circle time. Please read the introduction letter linked here to learn more! Monthly family newsletters will be linked about the skills and strengths being taught each month. Each letter will include some ways to build these skills at home, discussion starters, and fun challenges you can try with your family. The positive character trait for the month of January is perseverance.
