As an incoming freshman, I was terrified to enter the high school. Yet, there was one thing that I was looking forward to and eagerly awaited to take part in: the activities fair. The annual event took place on Friday, September 26th in the new parking lot near the track. Excitement hung in the air, accompanied by fun chaos, as the whole school gathered with the same goal. Students hurried around to find clubs to join, while club members recruited new students to join their current clubs.
Each booth had its unique way of enticing students. The German Club had ‘Nome Ring Toss’, while Steam Bus allowed students to explore the insides of its infamous “Steam Bus”. The different clubs’ hand-made posters shared all the information students needed about the clubs, so prospective members knew what they were signing up for.
The loud music and chatter gave students a taste of the type of spirit this school has. Student’s enthusiasm about topics they are passionate about spread to each and every one of their peers. The clubs at Niskayuna give students a chance to share their love for their passions. At the activities fair, students join clubs with new and old friends, exploring new and different activities that seem cool.
For a first-timer at the activities fair, I find it safe to say that it is a special event that gives students a sense for what this
school has to offer. The seventy plus amazing clubs give students a chance to find a community in the school where they can be themselves, and do activities that make them happy. The activities fair is just the beginning for so many people to find a
place that is valuable to them and their peers.
