Gone away

Ciara Derenzo

Certain glitter shines bright

It's light upon itself only felt

In the obsolete expanse of night

The stars start to make you think of yourself

A year drags it's boots in the dirt

The constellations shift one by one

While I stay in one place

The earth travels around the sun

Which is more fleeting

A year, or a fallen star?

What happens when the wishes run away,

And we stay right where we are?

I've made a habit of taking to the moon

Embellishing every detail of my tales,

He speaks plainly of unplain things,

Captivating with truth, where my fantasy fails

Still he listens, unwaveringly so,

time after time, week after week

The moon asks for a poem tonight

And so I speak

“and you return to the night sky,

Rising after the day.

And you'll still be there

Long past when I've gone away”
