New Nisk Art Friends Organization

The Niskayuna Friends of Music is a large part of the high school’s Music Department. With many members, this organization is able to gain sponsors and support the Nisky music students. However, the Niskayuna Friends of Music is now not the only parent organization that exists. The art department is also growing and becoming one of these parent establishments. This year, they created a new organization that mirrors Nisky Friends of Music, called Nisk Art Friends.

As cited on the group’s website, “Nisk Art Friends is a parent/guardian organization committed to securing exceptional opportunities and experiences for Niskayuna students.” Although Nisk Art Friends was only made this year, they have already accomplished a lot.

Throughout the past few weeks, Nisk Art Friends’ second art show has been up and running. In the beginning of the year the “Best of Art” art show was put up and now, the “Art Is Epic” show is here. When students walk through the art hallway, they are greeted by a variety of drawings, paintings and sculptures that compel them to take a look. The second art show is a great opportunity for students to showcase their work from the year, as well as demonstrate what the art department and its students have been doing.

The Nisk Art Friends’ website has also been up and running. Adults have an opportunity to become a member through the “Bob Ross Membership” program. In addition, businesses/organizations have the opportunity to become community sponsors through this website.

One action that Nisk Art Friends hopes to accomplish is organizing field trips to places like museums, where students could deepen their art capabilities not just by doing it, but also by experiencing it. This new organization will be able to provide scholarships to students, promote art competitions, and bring in local artists to assist with our school classes. In addition, the organization is a great way for parents to stay updated on the art community, get news about art shows, and become more involved in their child’s education.

Notably, the Nisky Art Newsletter had its first issue released and is preparing for its Quarter 2 issue. The newsletter is on the Nisk Art Friends Website and was emailed out to all members of the Niskayuna Central Schools District. Not only does it update community members about Nisk Art Friends, but also reveals what has been occurring in the art department as a whole. By highlighting student artwork, artists of the month, art classes, and more, the Nisky Art Newsletter is a great resource for students and parents to explore Niskayuna art.

Overall, the Niskayuna art department is rapidly growing. Through this group, Niskayuna students can release their creativity, discover aspects of themselves, take a break from academic work, and develop open mindedness. The Silver Scribe looks forward to seeing what Nisk Art Friends and the Niskayuna art department accomplishes next.
