Drama Club Presents Yet Another Hilarious Play That You Must Come and See!

Doris Yeung

Drama Club is excited to present its new play this year: Peter and the Starcatcher. Similar to last year’s show, The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter and the Starcatcher is an entertaining play that will give you some good laughs with its humorous scenes and amazing actors.

Peter and the Starcatcher is a play based on Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s 2004 novel, which shares the same title. It provides a backstory to the famous fictional character–Peter Pan–establishing the reason behind Peter Pan’s name, youth, motivations, and magical flying powers. The play starts with the encounter of three orphan boys: a boy with no name (who later becomes Peter Pan), Prentiss, and Ted. Additionally, they’re accompanied by teenager Molly Aster, the daughter of Lord Leonard Aster who is a faithful British subject to the Queen and a Starcatcher. On a mission to deliver treasure trunks to the Queen, Lord Aster’s ship is taken over by pirates led by Black Stache. In the next series of events, Molly and the boys coincidentally end up getting involved with the mission. As the play progresses, the four young characters grow together as they experience challenges and adventures as a team.

The directors, advisors, and cast members were interviewed on why people should come and see the play.

Doris Yeung: Why should people come to see Peter and the Starcatcher?

Jo Van Patten, director: Because it’s hilarious! We have a great cast and it’s a great play. The characters are well casted and the play is guaranteed to make you laugh.

Emma Brooksby, actor: The play is really funny and we put a lot of work into it, which will show in the final product.

Mr. Dale, advisor: It’s hilarious just like last year’s play, “The Play That Goes Wrong”. The comedy team of Black Stache and Smee is amazing.

Alex Lafargue, actor: Because it’s super funny and we’ve been working really hard on it, and we would like to share it.

Liz Ogonowski, actor: We put a lot of effort into it. It’s really funny and I think people could really get a kick out of it.

Overall, it is the general consensus among those involved with the play that Peter and the Starcatcher is hilarious and definitely worth seeing. Come and see the Drama Club perform on May 5th at 7 p.m. or May 6th at 3 p.m. / 7 p.m. to support our young actors and directors at Niskayuna!
