Niskayuna Boys

Swimming Strong

Raghav Raj

This season, the Niskayuna Boys Swimming & Diving team has won four out of their five meets so far, with their only loss coming in a close competition with Shenendehowa. With Sectionals coming up, the swimmers will be looking to win it all, but competing in the higher of the two divisions in Section II is no easy feat.

As the team practices for each match, you can feel a sense of camaraderie and belief in every athlete as they play the sport they love. When I decided to watch their meet against Bethlehem in person, I was excited to see what would happen. They were facing a strong team, and anything can happen in this sport. Nonetheless, the whole team put on a strong performance, racking up a total of 101 points, compared to Bethlehem's 72. I interviewed Evan Boyle, a junior, who competed in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. When asked about Niskayuna’s chances of winning Sectionals and the team’s performance so far, he told me, “Yes, we have a lot of guys who really stepped up this year and they are swimming excellently. We have been very consistent and we keep on getting better and better!”

A lot of preparation goes into every swim, and you have to applaud these remarkable swimmers for their consistent effort and passion. Swimming is definitely one of the toughest sports, and witnessing it first-hand strengthened my opinion! The Niskayuna Boys Swim Team faces Ballston Spa next on Tuesday, February 1st, before heading to Sectionals. Good luck boys!!
