New Music in November

This November promises many anticipated releases in the music industry. New releases from ABBA, Taylor Swift, and Adele promise no shortage of sappy breakup songs and intense power ballads.

ABBA’s first album in 40 years, Voyage, releases on November 5th. This release comes as a big surprise because of how long it’s been since we’ve heard from ABBA; all of the group members are now in their seventies! They’ve put out three singles from the upcoming album: “I Still Have Faith In You,” “Don’t Shut Me Down,” and “Just a Notion.” These singles stay very true to ABBA’s original sound and seem to be well received despite how much the music industry has changed since their last release. They’re also going on tour… kind of. They’ll be performing as digital avatars that look like their younger selves alongside a live band.

Taylor Swift will be releasing Red (Taylor’s Version) on November 12th. Swift has been in the process of re-recording her first 6 studio albums in order to own her entire discography, and this album is the second of those re-releases. This album contains all the original songs on Red, plus a bunch of unreleased “From the Vault” tracks, totaling up to 30 songs. The unreleased tracks are songs that were originally written for Red but didn’t make it on the album. Two of the songs from the Red vault (“Better Man” and “Babe”) are songs that we’ve heard before, just not from Taylor. These songs were written by Taylor but recorded by Little Big Town and Sugarland respectively. The other vault tracks feature collaborators like Phoebe Bridgers, Ed Sheeran, and Chris Stapleton. The most anticipated song by Taylor Swift’s fanbase is the 10 Minute Version of her (normally 5 and a half minute) song “All Too Well.”

Last but certainly not least, Adele’s long-awaited fourth studio album, 30, comes out on November 19th. Before announcing the album, she teased fans with projections of the number “30” in cities all over the world. The album has already become the most pre-added album of all time on Apple Music. On October 15th, Adele released a single titled “Easy On Me” which received a lot of positive attention online and became the most played song on Spotify only one day after its release. In Adele’s words, this album is about “divorce, babe, divorce.”

Overall, November seems to be a good (albeit sad) month for music, so make sure you’re prepared with your earbuds and tissues!
