Teen Girls Creed
I believe in chapstick flavored like mint,
to make nervous lip licks at least taste good.
I believe in the perfect outfit when found, then never lost,
when it drapes perfectly, hiding every imagined imperfection
that has been drilled into my mind and soul.
Almost ignored by distractions of phones and people,
a jungle gym of possibilities, although many hidden dangers, laughed off;
giggled about on-trip buses and sleepovers.
In stolen sips to impress, ending up laughing till your ribs hurt.
Foolish in dim bathroom lighting
and barely hiding the queasiness the next morning.
Only allowing the forgotten trace of God to judge me.
I believe in metal water bottles,
sugared up coffee,
clothes on my carpet,
rushed school assignments,
running mascara,
and my soul everlasting. Amen.
My name is Vera Berglund, and I’m a senior. I’ve avidly read since I was a kid and writing followed behind. I’ve always been very interested in words and their impact, so I decided to follow them. I like to mostly write about little moments that get overlooked and their simplicity.
