Uninspired
A blank page staring back at you,
the white of the bare document pure and blinding,
a dismal reflection of the emptiness in your head.
An echo chamber for the words that you don’t have,
that you can’t find.
The words that usually flow so easily
from your head to your fingertips.
The relentless flashing of the cursor,
so much more ready to create than you,
but you have no direction to give it,
no instructions from your imagination,
no ideas worthy of the extensive process of creation
or revision.
The steady, rhythmic tapping of the freshly sharpened pencil
against the clean lined paper
overflowing with potential you could unlock,
but you have misplaced the key
somewhere on your journey from one thought to another.
The desperate search for anyone,
anything,
to create a spark you could coax into a flame,
eyes flitting from one seemingly insignificant object to another
praying for something meaningful
from which you could shape and mold your own story.
You race the ticking of the clock,
a deadline approaching
with unyielding rapidity
A merciless panic flowering in your body
with every passing minute,
every second without a word on the page,
a second lost to your own incompetence.
But the words aren’t coming
The void is going nowhere.

Morning
As the day dawns, a rising glow
brightens the sky from midnight blue,
glares of light peek through the branches,
rays of sun,
beams of pure and untainted joy.
The distorted and drowsy rings
of life waking,
a race against Father Time,
tick,
always forward.
The prospect of growth
hidden in the tomorrows and left at ends of beds.
Lost night, new dawn, more life.
Plenty of potential at today’s edges,
awaiting an outstretched hand.
My name is Norah Timmerman and I am a senior this year. I love using writing as an outlet and a means of self expression and discovery. I think being able to get out of your comfort zone and push boundaries through the creation of stories is an incredibly valuable experience.
