The Focus of Research
When deciding on your research topic it is important to consider the following:
Research Question or hypothesis?
What specific age/group of people will you be targeting?
Has prior research been conducted to use as secondary data?
Are you realistically going to be able to gain primary data about your topic?
Will you be able to obtain both qualitative and quantitative data?
Does it align with the syllabus?
Activity - IRP Exploration
Choose one of the sample projects on the Google classroom and discuss the following:
What was the focus of the research?
Did they use a research question or hypothesis?
CI Application
Within your groups collaborate and complete the following:
Brainstorm areas of potential interest that you may like to focus on within CQ2 and CQ4. Reflect on the key considerations listed above.
Conduct background research using Google scholar, AI platforms (cue for only academic sources) to identify if there is previous studies to use as secondary research
Check in with your teacher for feedback
Once you have your area of focus locked in, complete the following:
Open the Proposal scaffold. Brainstorm a variety of hypothesis and research questions. Add these ideas into your scaffold.
Check in with your teacher and collaboratively decide on the most appropriate research question/hypothesis. Add it to your scaffold.
Within your proposal plan, explain how your topic links with the HMS syllabus and add some direct screen shots of the syllabus area it comes from.
