This crazy spread of the music video was the beginning of the streaming world today where artist have found a way to spread their work and become famous with. With how majority of artist today will use Youtube to share their music, Gangnam style was one of the first to ignite this source.
This is largely how music artist make a living today, and its spread to newer social media platforms, like TikTok.

This dance brought the world together with the viral dance, because of the spread due to the catchiness and the simplicity but excitement of the dance.
Dance groups from all over the world joined in on this dance. Massive flash mobs were created all over the world for example in 2012, Times Square in Manhattan was filled with a dance mob dancing the iconic dance.
The spread of the dance made huge social waves everywhere.
It also made a huge statement on the definition of K-pop. Where the opposite of what a Korean pop idol is suppose to do, look like, or dance like is the one to make the biggest breakthrough.
This dance also brought light to the amazing world of K-pop to the western world where today is a large industry outside of Korea. One artist can't be the reason for the large success K-pop has today but sure has a good deal in introducing the world to it.
This dance has also influenced political powers from Obama, to other political figures. Like the British Prime Minister David Cameron and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who hailed it as "a force for world peace. This dance became such a global icon that political leaders use this as an example.
