Tests
Tests
Enter your course.
In Course Content, browse the page; tests may be inside folders or learning modules.
Check one of these places:
Activity Stream: Look for new assignment alerts (overdue items appear in Important).
Calendar: Select the due date to open the assignment (if your instructor set one).
Grades or Activity pages: Open graded items with due dates from there.
Select the test to start
Select the test title.
In the right panel, confirm:
Due date (and whether it’s passed).
Attempts allowed.
Time limit (if any).
Goals and rubric (if provided).
Check if any submission is/will be late.
If this is an in-class or proctored exam, your Professor will provide you with an access code. When starting the test, you will be asked to provide this number in order to continue.
Enter the 6-digit access code.
You can reuse the code to resume a saved test attempt
You may need to request a new code if the one you have is no longer valid.
Select View assessment to read or begin answering.
Not ready? Select Save and Close. Return later via View assessment to resume.
Confirm the time limit in Details & Information.
Select Start attempt → in the pop-up, choose Start (or Cancel if not ready).
The timer counts down while you work; saving/leaving does not stop it.
At time-up, your test auto-submits.
If Prohibit Late Submissions is enabled, the test auto-submits at the due date if you haven’t submitted.
You can hide/show the timer via the View icon next to it
Alerts:
10 min–1 hr: One alert at 10% remaining.
≥1 hr: Alerts at 50% and 10% remaining.
No alerts if the limit is <10 min or you have unlimited-time accommodation.
Opening a test after the due date shows Late alerts in Details & Information and on the test page.
Instructors may enter zeros for missing work after the due date (you may still submit if attempts remain; penalties vary by instructor).
View details (right panel): due date, points, time limit; see questions remaining at the top.
Use the Questions Filter (bottom of page) to:
Answer the easy items first, and skip the harder ones.
Jump to answered/unanswered.
View essay or extra credit items quickly.
Answering & editor tips
Type or choose answers; use editor tools for formatting/embedding files/images.
On small screens, select + for more tools.
Keyboard: ALT+F10 (Win) or Fn+ALT+F10 (Mac) to focus the toolbar; arrows to navigate.
Auto-save & connection
Answers auto-save 2s after you stop; essay fields also save every 10s while typing.
A Last saved message confirms saves.
If you see 'Connection lost,' don’t refresh or go back; reconnect instead. After ~20 seconds, you may see a 'not saved' warning. When restored, you’ll receive a 'Connection restored' notice, and saving will resume.
View files (if attached by instructor): open inline media or use Preview/Download Original File from the file menu.
Conversations (if enabled): select Open class conversation to ask/answer.
At the end of the test, if permitted, you can submit additional content.
Select Add Content to attach supporting text/files or leave comments.
If the test is timed, ensure file uploads are completed before the time expires—uploads made after the time-up aren’t included.
You may also insert from Cloud Storage (OneDrive/Google Drive). Remember: uploaded versions are copies.
Save & Close to pause and return later (timer continues on timed tests).
Submit when finished.
If items are unanswered, you’ll see a warning with the count—submit anyway or return to complete.
A confirmation panel shows date/time; copy and save the submission confirmation number.
Auto-graded tests may show a score immediately; otherwise you’ll see Not graded until the instructor posts grades.
Attempts rules
One attempt: You can’t edit after submission.
Multiple attempts: Attempts after the due date are late; those before are not late.
If you are asked to complete the submission within the text editor and there is a word count, here are some things to keep in mind.
Counts: words, links, list text (not bullets/numbers), standalone superscript/subscript.
Doesn’t count: images, videos, attachments, math, blank spaces/lines, alt text.
Punctuation can join/split words (e.g., We went...without you = 3 words).
The counter shows while typing and disappears after saving.
If you need to reorder multiple attachements to edit or reorder you can do so before submitting.
Edit content/files

Do not include your name in files or typed responses.
Anonymous grading isn’t used for group tests.

Instructors may delay correct answers; a banner will indicate this.
When posted, find grades in:

Open Grading to review submission, available correct answers, grade, and feedback.
Select the speech bubble to read instructor feedback (per attempt if multiple).
