Direct Assistance

UPDATE: 2022- Please file your annual reports under the annual plan of work option on the DOLA system. We are working with DOLA to change the name, but it is a work in progress. Thank you for understanding!

Conservation districts are political subdivisions of the State and are special purpose districts organized under Colorado Revised Statutes.  Conservation Districts are also described as “public body corporate” in the Colorado Soil Conservation Act.  Under the above legal designations, Conservation Districts must perform a number of responsibilities and duties to be recognized as a functioning organization providing the services for which they were originally certified to perform by the Secretary of State.

The Direct Assistance program is a critical element of Colorado’s conservation investment, not only because it provides an incentive for efficient conservation programs but primarily because it acts as a catalyst for conservation. Specifically, conservation districts utilize the relatively small Direct Assistance grants as seed money to leverage other funding sources in order to develop educational, technical, or on-the-ground programs that would not have otherwise been possible.

The Colorado State Conservation Board (CSCB) has determined that each Conservation District must meet the minimum statutory requirements each year to be eligible to receive funding through the line item in the State Board’s budget entitled “Distributions to Conservation Districts.”   The staff of the State Board (CSCB) will certify annually that each district has met the minimum statutory requirements.

To see the list of statutory requirements, guidelines on completion, and deadlines, please visit our Statutory Requirement page here: https://sites.google.com/state.co.us/cscb/grant-applications-and-operational-materials/direct-assistance

In 2022, Conservation Districts will (again) have the option to submit an Annual Report to be considered for additional funding on top of the allocated funds from maintaining current statutory requirements. Information on this Annual Report will be posted below, please check back regularly for updates.

Submission of the Annual Report has NOT changed. To submit your report by the deadline, submit under 'service plan' area on your DOLA e-portal account and choose the corresponding year.
