Dear Saint Albert Families,
As we enter the holy season of Lent, our school community is invited to embrace these forty days with a renewed spirit of prayer, service, and sacrifice. Lent calls us to slow down, refocus our hearts, and grow closer to Christ through small, meaningful daily choices.
One simple yet powerful sacrifice we might consider as families is setting aside our cell phones. What if, as part of our Lenten journey, we committed to no phones at the dinner table or no phone use after 7:00 p.m.? Perhaps we even choose to step away from social media altogether during these forty days. In giving up screens, we make room for conversation, prayer, laughter, and true connection.
Here are a few simple ways families can make Lent rich in purpose:
For Children:
Say one extra prayer each day for someone in need
Perform one hidden act of kindness daily.
Give up a favorite treat and offer it up with intention.
For Parents:
Begin or end the day with Scripture or a short devotional.
Reach out to someone who may be lonely
Model gratitude and patience in daily routines.
For Families:
Pray together before bed.
Attend Stations of the Cross.
Choose one family service project (collecting canned goods, writing cards to the elderly, helping a neighbor).
Participate in Rice Bowl
Gather in community at the weekly Fish Frys
Lent is not only about what we give up, but about what we gain — deeper faith, stronger family bonds, and hearts turned toward Christ.
Wishing you and your family a focused, peaceful, and prayerful Lenten journey.

Assistant Principal

In February, our school community will focus on the virtue of Love—a love that is patient, kind, forgiving, and selfless. Inspired by St. Valentine, we are reminded that love is more than a feeling; it is a daily choice shown through our words and actions. As St. Paul teaches us, “Love is patient, love is kind… It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” This month, we encourage our students and families to practice Christ-like love at home, at school, and in our community.
Family Prayer for February
Loving God,
Thank You for the gift of love. Help our family to be patient and kind with one another, to forgive as You forgive, and to show love through our actions each day. Through the example of St. Valentine, teach us to love generously and faithfully. May our words and choices reflect Your love in all we do.
Amen.
This Lent, our school community will participate in Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl, a Lenten program that invites us to pray, fast, and give in solidarity with those in need around the world. Through simple acts of sacrifice and generosity, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. We encourage all families to prayerfully join us in this effort as we live out the call to love our neighbors and serve the most vulnerable during this holy season. Rice Bowls will be collected in homerooms during Holy Week, Monday, March 30th, through Friday, April 3rd.
