September 11, 2025

Please remember to report all student absences to both the homeroom teacher and the school office by 9:00 a.m. Since Amy Baker is no longer in the office, please email Courtney Humston at chumston@stalbert.org along with the homeroom teacher. You’re also welcome to call the front office to report an absence.

Changes to student transportation in the afternoon should be emailed to both the homeroom teacher and the school office by 2:00 p.m. Changes made after 2 p.m. should be made with a phone call to the office to ensure the homeroom teacher is notified. Thanks for your assistance.

A Message from Administration

As you read in the Viking Voice last week, our school is focusing on Saint Teresa of Calcutta, who is the inspiration for our virtue this month: Kindness. In my classroom lessons this month, we are talking about three big things I hope students will always remember about kindness:

The hope is for students to see that kindness isn’t just something we do when it’s convenient or when people are kind to us first. It’s a way of living and treating others with love and respect, no matter what. You can keep this lesson going at home by pointing out everyday opportunities to choose kindness, recognizing when your child shows kindness, reading books that highlight kindness, or doing your own family kindness challenge!

Thank you,

Mrs. Loren Corbett

School Counselor

Book Fair is Coming!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be here October 1-7  for students and parents to enjoy!  This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again!

Here are a few things to remember:

     * Students may bring money to shop during their regular library class during this week or wait for their scheduled conference.  If your child doesn't shop during class, we can provide a wish list to write down choices

     * If JK-3rd grade bring in money to shop during class time, please put it in a labeled envelope/baggie with the student's name

     * If you are interested in e-wallet (digital payment account that allows your child(ren) to shop for books instead of using cash), please refer to the Scholastic Book Fair flyer that will be sent home in the Tuesday folder

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Viking's Saints and Virtues Program Continues

We are excited to continue our Saints and Virtues lessons this year, supporting both our Catholic faith and our students’ social and emotional development. Each month, we will focus on one saint and a virtue that they exemplified in their life.

Classroom teachers will introduce the saint, sharing their life story, accomplishments, and the path to sainthood. They will also teach students about the virtue the saint lived. Following this, our school counselors will visit each classroom once a month to explore how students can live out this virtue in their daily lives—at home, in school, and in the community.

Students who demonstrate the monthly virtue in the classroom, hallways, or playground will be recognized with our Viking Virtue Award, presented on the last Thursday of each month after our school mass.

Our first saint of the year is Saint Teresa of Calcutta, known around the world for her tireless work serving the poorest of the poor. She devoted her life to caring for the sick, the orphaned, and the dying, founding the Missionaries of Charity to continue this mission of love. Her life perfectly reflected our first virtue: Kindness—treating every person with compassion, respect, and love, no matter their circumstances.

Together, let’s follow her example and bring kindness into every part of our school community.

Wait Until 8th Pledge

Did you know that St. Albert has several active grade levels with parents who have signed the Wait Until 8th pledge?  You are invited to join! The Wait Until 8th pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving children a smartphone until at least the end of 8th grade.  By banding together, this will decrease the pressure felt by kids and parents alike over the kids having a smartphone. There are so many reasons to wait.

Many parents say “yes” to the smartphone early because so many other families have said “yes.” What if we said "not yet” together though? What difference would it make if our kids had a few more years smartphone-free?

Please note that this pledge is for smartphones only. If you would like your child to have a basic phone that just calls and texts, you still can sign the pledge! To sign the pledge or learn more of what the pledge is and is not, click here.

St. Therese Novena Masses (9/22–10/1)

In partnership with the Parish, we kindly ask all teams to plan on attending the following three Novena Masses together. Teams are encouraged to sit together and wear their uniform or spirit wear, unless other directives are given for attire (i.e. 2nd grade student athletes preparing for First Communion).

To honor this special time, no practices should be scheduled between 4:00–6:30 PM on these three dates:

•        Monday, 9/22 – Kickoff Mass

•        Saturday, 9/27 – Weekend Mass

•        Wednesday, 10/1 – Feast Day Mass

For the other seven days, if your team has practice during mass time, please consider attending together. If practices or games are already scheduled during mass hours for the other seven dates, we kindly request families to park on the road to preserve campus parking for parish visitors.

We invite you to bring flowers in honor of St. Thérèse and to write down your prayer intentions, which will be placed before the altar throughout the novena. A blessing with her relic will be given after each Mass. Come and experience the gentle love of God through the prayers of St. Thérèse, who promised to spend her heaven doing good on earth.
