This week, as we celebrate Read Across America, let's recognize the incredible power that reading holds for our students. Reading is not just a subject; it's a fundamental skill that opens doors to academic success and lifelong learning.
Regular reading offers many transformative benefits that extend far beyond the classroom some of which include:
Enhanced Vocabulary and Language Skills
Improved Focus and Concentration
Stronger Academic Performance
Cultivating Empathy and Understanding
Stress Reduction and Imagination
Our Accelerated Reader (AR) Program is a fantastic tool to help students harness these benefits and turn reading into a goal-oriented activity. The AR program encourages students to read books at their appropriate reading level, take personal responsibility for meeting their goal, and improve comprehension. It is recommended that students read for at least 20 minutes a day.
As we enjoy Read Across America week, encourage your student to dive into a great book, discuss their new AR goal set for the third trimester, and experience the joy and power of reading.

This month, we focus on the virtue of forgiveness and honor St. Maria Goretti, a young saint remembered for her extraordinary courage, purity, and forgiveness.
Born in Italy in 1890 to a poor farming family, Maria helped her mother care for her siblings after her father passed away. Even as a child, she was known for her deep love of prayer and strong faith.
At just 11 years old, Maria bravely resisted an attack from a young man named Alessandro Serenelli, saying she would rather die than commit a sin. She was stabbed multiple times and died the next day. Before she passed, Maria forgave Alessandro and prayed for his conversion.
Years later, Alessandro repented, changed his life, and even attended Maria’s canonization in 1950 — a powerful reminder that forgiveness can transform hearts. Today, St. Maria Goretti is the patron saint of purity, forgiveness, and young people.
As students, we can follow her example by:
Choosing what is right, even when it is hard
Standing up for virtue and purity
Forgiving others when they hurt us
Praying daily and trusting God
Showing mercy instead of holding grudges
Her life reminds us that holiness is not about age — it is about courage.
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the example of St. Maria Goretti.
Help our family choose what is right, even when it is difficult.
Give us courage to stand strong in our faith,
and hearts willing to forgive as Maria did.
May our home be filled with purity, mercy, and love.
St. Maria Goretti, pray for us.
Amen.
May we all strive this month to be Vikings of virtue — brave, faithful, and forgiving.
This Lent, our school community will participate in Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl, a Lenten program that invites us to pray, fast, and give in solidarity with those in need around the world. Through simple acts of sacrifice and generosity, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. We encourage all families to prayerfully join us in this effort as we live out the call to love our neighbors and serve the most vulnerable during this holy season. Rice Bowls will be collected in homerooms during Holy Week, Monday, March 30th, through Friday, April 3rd.
