Promoting British Values at Springside
Through its curriculum, extra-curricular activities, teaching and learning, Springside Primary School will promote British Values. By doing so, we will ensure that all learners understand the values that have traditionally underpinned British society. The teaching of these values will promote cohesiveness within our school and community. We will prepare pupils for life in England where the population has an increasingly rich diversity of backgrounds, origins, beliefs and cultures by promoting the values on which our society has been built. By teaching pupils these values we will help all to become good citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

This week, we have had a Uniform Week where we ensured that everyone was wearing uniform which matched our policy.
Here is a reminder of our expectations.
Yellow polo shirt (with or without school logo)
Red sweatshirt or cardigan (with or without school logo)
Dark grey shorts, trousers, skirts or pinafore dresses
Waterproof coat
Autumn/Winter PE Kit (black joggers, white T-shirt, plain black trainers, School jumper)
Spring/Summer PE Kit (black shorts, white T-shirt, plain black trainers, School jumper)
Black / grey or white socks Black / white / red or grey tights
Black shoes
Red and white gingham dresses can be worn in the summer.
Jewellery
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in school. The exceptions to this rule are: watches, plain stud earrings (in pierced ears), and small objects of religious significance. We ask the children to either remove these objects during PE and games, or if newly pierced, to cover earrings with a plaster (provided by the parent), to prevent them from causing injury.
Footwear
We require all children to wear black shoes. Shoes with heels are not allowed for safety reasons. Trainers must not be worn for school, although they may be brought to school to wear outside at playtime or lunchtime. We ask children to change out of boots, especially during bad weather. Wellington boots are needed for wet or snowy weather and children will be asked to change as they come inside school. Boots will not be allowed inside school.
Children may wear black shoes or their black PE plimsolls inside school.
Good quality second hand uniform
If you are struggling or you need some extra uniform, school has a good selection of good quality second hand uniform which can be obtained for free. We will have days when this uniform is displayed for parents to take but if you need help between these times, just ask a member of staff and we will be happy to provide this for you.
A group of parents and staff are setting up a ‘Friends of Springside’ group. The plan is to create a formal PTA within the next 12 months, with a nominated committee.
Over the next few months, we will be holding regular meetings and organising fundraising events to raise money to renovate the Community Room.
Events coming up:
Wednesday 1st February: (date will be moved due to the strike)
Uniform Sale in the Playground 3.30pm
w/c Monday 27th February:
Sponsored Pancake Toss
We have a few spare places in our Fencing Club. If you want to experience a new sport, please join our club 8am to 9am on Monday mornings £4 per session. Please speak to Miss Thornicroft if you wish to join.
You may have seen the Wall of Champions display in the entrance hall? We want to fill it with pictures of you all! If you are in a club, group or team outside school and you have a badge, shield or trophy, please bring it into school. We will present it to you in assembly and we will take a picture of you for the wall. Your award does not have to be for sport, we want pictures from a variety of different interests and hobbies. Good Luck!
Welcome back everyone, lets have a great 2023!

From September 2022, we have decided to deliver the NHS backed ‘My Happy Mind’ program from EYFS to Y6.
‘My Happy Mind’ is a complete mental and emotional wellbeing package for primary schools . It was created for schools with a very simple mission - to give today’s children the skills to thrive in tomorrow’s world. Their programmes give children the preventative strategies, skills and tools they need to thrive in the modern world.
As we go through the program, we will be sending home parent information so you can also support your child and talk to them about what they are learning.
Welcome back everyone! It was great to see all your smiling faces this morning!
