Meets the needs of our pupils through identified Curriculum Drivers. These ensure that our curriculum is tailored to the needs of children in our area.
Springside Curriculum Overview
Curriculum Drivers
Our Curriculum Drivers reflect the areas of need in our pupil's lives . Having analysed local statistics and utilising our knowledge of the context of our families, we have chosen 5 key drivers which ensure that our curriculum not only meets the needs of the National Curriculum, but also meets the needs of Springside pupils.
Curriculum Map 2023-24
The Curriculum Map shows units of learning in each subject, for the whole academic year. This allows teachers, pupils and parents/carers to see what will be taught, when.
Writing
Detailed Writing Overview
This shows teachers, pupils and parents/carers the specific Writing focus for each year group at each stage of the year.
Reading
At Springside, we believe that Reading is a vital skill which pupils need to access the rest of the curriculum.
In EYFS and Key Stage 1, we use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds to inform our teaching of Early Reading and Phonics.
Pupils in all Key Stages and Phases are supported in Phonics development if needed, through Rapid Catch-up sessions.
Once pupils finish all of the Phases of the Little Wandle Scheme, they move on to Accelerated Reading which is a system for assessing a pupil's reading age and level to provide appropriate Library Books for them to read.
In Key Stage 2, we teach reading through a Whole Class Reading model.
Maths
