In this ceramics elective, students will develop their skills in both hand-building and mechanical construction techniques using clay. They will explore the creative possibilities of clay through the design and production of functional and decorative works such as pots, plates, and plaques. Emphasis is placed on planning, documenting processes, and developing personal ideas. Students will build an understanding of clay at its various stages—plastic, leather-hard, greenware, bisqueware, and glazed—and how these stages influence construction and decoration. A key focus of the course is supporting students to see themselves as artists, engaging in creative exploration and refinement of their own artistic voice.
