This elective is primarily aimed at those students who are considering enrolling in Math Methods at year 11 and 12. The course will consolidate core concepts taught in previous year levels. It will allow students to extend their range and understanding of areas covered in both basic and extended mathematical concepts and problem solving along with the use of technology to solve mathematical problems. There will be opportunities for student to apply their mathematical skills to different types of applications and to become familiar with the new CAS (Computer Algebra Systems) calculators.
Functions and Graphs – Linear, quadratic and other polynomial functions.
Algebra – Substitution, transformation and algebra of polynomial functions.
Calculus – Average rate of change, instantaneous rate of change.
Probability – Karnaugh maps, conditional probability, mutually exclusive events.
Highly recommended for students intending to study VCE Math Methods at year 11 and 12.
Consolidates core curriculum from Year 10 Maths and provides introductory extension studies in skills and concepts important for VCE Maths.
Will help to fill in previous gaps in higher level mathematical understanding.
