Duo Authentication - New Phone, Same Phone Number

Text Instructions

New Phone, Same Number

  1. Go to any website that requires a Smith login (e.g. the Smith Portal or Workday).

  2. When you get the Duo prompt, select My Settings and Devices from the options on the left. Note: If Duo was set to “remember me for 30 days” and skips the Duo page, you can make it appear by using a different browser, a private window, or an incognito window in Chrome.

  1. Since your phone number is the same as it was on your previous phone, choose either Call Me or Enter a Passcode to authenticate.

  • Call Me: answer the phone and press one of the number keys when prompted.

  • Enter a Passcode: select Enter a Passcode. A blue bar will appear at the bottom of the Duo window. Select Text me new codes. You will receive a text on your phone with 5 one-time-use codes. Enter the first code in the list and Log In.

  1. You will be directed to the Duo settings page. Select Device Options next to the entry for your phone.

  1. Select Reactivate Duo Mobile. Note: If you are reactivating a cell phone or a landline, you do not need to continue to the steps below to reactivate the mobile app.

  1. On your new phone, install Duo Mobile from the App or Google Play store if you have not done so yet. Select I have Duo Mobile installed.

  2. Open the Duo app on your phone and select Add account. If Duo asks for permission to use the camera on your phone, say yes. You can then scan the barcode to complete the process.
