Supported Tools for Teaching
Zoom, Moodle, and Google are the most frequently used tools for remote teaching and learning. To access the information, simply select the name of the software or the drop-down menu on the right. For a complete list of all supported tools, documentation, and FAQs, please visit our Supported Tools page.
Moodle
Moodle is the college's learning management system (LMS) used for creating an online home for your courses. Share course materials such as your syllabus, course readings, and links to video ereserves. Create activities for online discussions, collecting homework, and quizzes or exams.

Add Your Slack Class Workspace Link to Moodle
Log into Moodle and navigate to your course page, then select "Turn editing on".
Near the top of your course page, select "+ Add a new activity or resource". In the pop-up window, scroll to the bottom, select "URL" then select "Add". The "Adding a new URL" screen will open.
In the Name field, type the name of your class workspace, such as "SMI 101 Course Slack Group". In the External URL field, paste the Slack URL (_____.slack.com). When finished, select "Save and return to course".

Google Suite
Google suite can be used for a variety of course support needs.
Zoom
Zoom is a video-conferencing tool used by Smith for meetings, including course instruction. For a complete list of all supported tools, documentation, and FAQs, please visit our Supported Tools page.
Login at https://smith.zoom.us
Keep your Zoom app up to date! Some features and functionality, such as being able to participate in breakout rooms, will stop working properly if your app is out of date. Updating the Zoom Desktop App.

The Comprehensive Assessment of Team Member Effectiveness (CATME) SMARTER Teamwork is a system of secure, web-based tools that enable instructors to implement best practices in managing student teams.

Panopto
Panopto is Smith's streaming media server used to host and share both class Zoom recordings and other non-Zoom videos. See the Panopto page for complete details.
I am using Moodle as my course home base and I want to utilize the Panopto block in Moodle to share videos with students:

Enable Email Notifications for when Recordings Finish Processing in Panopto
Set Specific Zoom Meeting ID Recordings to Automatically Sort into Dedicated Panopto Folders (recommended for instructors who teach multiple courses)
I am using Moodle as my course home base and I want to control when and where Zoom class recordings appear to students:
Add the Panopto Block, Connect Your Moodle Course, Remove the Panopto block

Perusall
Perusall is an e-reader platform that allows students and faculty to annotate assigned readings. It is available for instructor use within Moodle.

Poll Everywhere
Poll Everywhere is a web-based tool that allows you to capture instant feedback in a variety of forms. It can be used in remote classes, virtual meetings, events, and more. Smith has a campus-wide license.

Slack
Slack is a messaging and collaboration platform where classes and other groups can connect with each other and share information and resources. Smith has a campus-wide license as of summer 2020. Our initial focus is on course uses, but we will be making Slack available for more general use later in the fall.
If you would like to use Slack, the first step is to request a course space.
Request a Course Space
Go to our Request for Help form.
Select the radio button to identify yourself as faculty, then choose your primary appointment.
Under "I need help with...", select "Tools, my course, or a consultation".
Check the radio button for "I need to request a Slack Workspace".
Complete the remaining fields with the relevant course information.

VoiceThread
VoiceThread is a web-based tool that allowsusers to post texts, audio, and video, as well as handdrawn annotations, for commenting and interaction. Smith has a campus-wide license as of spring 2020. Instructors can set up VoiceThreads using Moodle.

Supported Tools for Remote Work
The tools highlighted below are a select list of those most commonly used by Smith faculty for working remotely. To access the information, simply select the name of the software or the drop-down menu on the right. For a complete list of all supported tools and documentation, please visit our Supported Tools page.
Campus Phones
If you're not working or teaching from your office, you can access your work phone remotely. Simply dial 413-585-2074, then follow the prompts to access your mailbox.
To update your phone greeting to direct people to your email address (or a department/colleague’s email), press 82 to access the greeting menu, then follow the voice prompts.
To check your messages, follow the prompts after you’ve accessed your mailbox. Information on using the voicemail system is available here.
To make calls on behalf of the college while you’re away from your office, you have several options.
Your personal device. (If you want to block your number, start your call by dialing *67, then dial the number.)
Set up a Zoom meeting, then connect via your personal phone.
If you’re calling a Smith staff or faculty member, you can use Google Hangouts, with or without video.
Workday
Workday is Smith's system for managing human resources, payroll, student employment, finance, and budget information.
Log in to Workday at https://workday.smith.edu.
Get help with Workday tasks at https://workday.smith.edu/help.
Recommended browsers: Firefox or Google Chrome. If you are not already logged in on Firefox or Google Chrome with a smith.edu account, you will be prompted to log in with your Smith credentials before you can access the Workday Help Site.
Remote Access to Specialized Campus Software
Smith has licenses for analytical, graphical analysis, media, productivity, statistical, and other software programs that members of the campus community can use. You'll find a full list of software below in How to Access Specialized Campus Software.
