Firmly Clasped Below Her Breast

Firmly clasped below her breast, With thoughts of him replete, Nothing grand, a simple thing, It made her feel complete. She did not dare to speak her dreams, The hopes that caused such fear, To let him know she needed him, And knew he pined for her. She put it down with deep regret, And set her dreams aside, Returned to work to be secure, And swore she would not cry. But far above an angel wept. It weakened her resolve, As tears of heaven filled her eyes, And filled her heart with love. She picked it up and held it close, And closed her eyes to see The love that flowed between them both, The bond that made them free.
