D & R Unit Project

Brief Introduction Video

There are two parts to this project. First you will choose one of the following countries impacted by the revolutions of the Arab Spring to research: Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, or Syria. (If you would like to research another country, see me - I bet we can make it work!) Your project can be in any form you like: a poster, a Google presentation, a video, a fake Facebook timeline, a real timeline, or any other way you can creatively demonstrate your knowledge on this project.

Where will you get your information? Start here - a list of sources I've compiled for you as a starting point. Check in with me about other sources you run across. Find a good source for this project? Email or loopmail me!

Use this document to take notes. Log into your Gmail then create a copy for yourself so you can have a place where all your information is stored for this project.

How will you be graded? The rubric is here.

Part I

As you build your knowledge of this country, you will complete the revolutions model for your chosen country. Be as specific as possible as you complete revolutions model! (Once you show me this I will sign off on page 6 on your unit packet). Then compare and contrast the revolutions model of your chosen country to the revolutions model for France, England (the Glorious Revolution), and America. Your three circle Venn diagram should be useful for this! (Compare and contrast means that I want you to tell me the similarities and differences between your chosen revolution and the three old revolutions. What similarities do you see? What differences are apparent 300 years after some of these revolutions? Are people still protesting for the same things?)

Part II

Based on your notes and understanding of screencasts four, six, and eight make recommendations to your chosen country. Certain choices made during the Glorious, American, and French revolutions made democratic changes in those countries 'stick' and become permanent changes that gave more rights and power to more people than before the revolutions. Based on your understanding of what creates 'sticky' revolutionary changes, advise your chosen country on steps they should take after their revolution to make sure their citizens benefit from the changes in the country. Be sure to look at where your country is coming from before the revolution - this context should guide the recommendations you make to the country you chose.

In summary, I need the following:

    • Completed revolutions model for your chosen country
    • Compare/contrast the revolutions model for your chosen country with the revolutions models of the Glorious, American, and French revolutions
    • Make recommendations to your chosen country so they can make the democratic changes to their stick
    • Cite all sources and images. All images must be Creative Commons friendly.

Steps

    1. Read the project directions. Get a classmate or LS to answer your questions.
    2. Build schema on the Arab Spring. Remember, Wikipedia is a good place to start but a bad place to finish.
    3. Choose a country to do your project on. Remember, Wikipedia is a good place to start your research but a bad place to finish.
    4. Complete the revolutions model for your country. Compare and contrast this revolutions model to the revolutions models for England, America, and France.
    5. Figure out what your country should do to make the revolution in your chosen country 'stick.'
