Race Route NB: New Route Finish
The route is run in a clockwise direction. The Route is marked and marshalled at key points. Runners are requested to follow the route and not to take short cuts. The race starts on the wide track just above the Dam & climbs gently until meeting a fork in the path. Take the path to the right. Continue to climb gently along this forestry track to reach another track. Take a sharp hairpin right onto an old stony and rocky
tramroad. Continue along this tramroad for approximately 1km to reach a stile and waymark on the left-hand side. Go over the stile. Head diagonally across the waymarked fields until reaching another stile that meets a tarmac road. Turn right and follow the road for approximately 0.5km until a faint path onto the open hillside becomes visible. Take this path which ascends steeply upwards, ascending the
multiple false summits to finally reach the summit of Tor y Foel (CP1). On reaching the summit, take the obvious path in a SW direction off the summit to reach a junction of paths and a tarmac road. Cross the road and take the signposted path descending to the tramway (CP2). This path is often muddy and boggy and so your fell/good trail shoes will come in handy here. Head North along the tramway
keeping right where it forks. Remain on this flat tramway for approx. 1.5km until reaching a stile on the left. Take this stile and follow the route downhill to eventually reach a gate. Go through this gate to arrive back at the track above the Dam.. Turn right and race along the track for approximately 400m to the finish.
NB The race no longer finishes on the dam. The route finish has been moved for your safety due to the volume of traffic on the Dam and around the finish area.
