In our team's efforts to date of research and understanding the moto ondoso problem, we have learned an immense amount about the City of Venice, the problem they are facing, and the efforts to solve the problem. At first when you describe to someone this problem of moto ondoso, they do not think much of it and believe it is a minor issue. However, when you explain the issues to them in greater detail, they begin to understand how important this is to the City of Venice. This is something that myself and my team has learned as well as we have continued research and planning. It is a problem that has existed for long periods of time now, and it is very serious as it is destroying the canal walls of Venice.
On top of this, I was also amazed by the extent of efforts that have been made prior to this current IQP. This past week, we presented in our ID 2050 class about the issue of moto ondoso. We were required to read past IQP's and choose one that we thought was the best. This was a very eye-opening experience because we learned everything from how IQP proposals are structured to how IQP groups have approached the issue in years past. We saw how some projects were data intensive, some included great solutions, and some included great plans. However, we saw that a large gap existed, where no one had taken their solutions or plans and actually set them into place to see actual results. This was reassuring to us, because it allows us to plan to make a great difference by doing so.
The most important takeaway from this week was not only our discovery of this gap, but learning how well we work together as a team. We have already found a great passion in the project which we are working on, and we can already see how much this has and will motivate us to do our best and solve this problem of moto ondoso. When this is combined with the gap which we discovered, I believe that our team has great potential to make a big difference in the City of Venice. Thanks to my team, our advisors, and our sponsors!
