To this point in the project, our team had accepted moto ondoso as simply the wakes caused by motor boats that constantly damage the canal walls. We did not think much more of it, or look deeper into the subject. However, this past week we dove into the subject a little further and found out more about moto ondoso.
In order for our team to fully understand and work to resolve the issue of moto ondoso, we researched more into the dynamics of wakes. We found that in fluid dynamics, a wake is a "region of disturbed flow downstream of a solid body moving through a fluid, caused by the flow of the fluid around the body." They take the form of a "V", with the energy source coming from the center. Also, each wake line is offset from the source path by about 19.47 degrees, and made up of feathery wavelets which are angled at about 53 degrees.
This information will help us better study the wakes because we know how they are formed and in what shape they are formed, what angles they exist at, and where the energy sources exist in them. With this knowledge, we can better understand how to reduce the wakes, whereas before we did not know these specifics and could not address solutions specifically.
