There are many possible solutions to reducing the moto ondoso produced by the boat traffic in Venice. Most of the ideas revolve around improving either the way that the boats are designed or the way the canal traffic is arranged. These concepts either reduce the amount of wakes, or reduce the size of the wakes, which would both be beneficial in reducing their damaging effects. One concept that seems to not have been covered in previous IQP projects concerning wakes is social awareness. Considering Venice is an area highly populated by tourists, the damaging effects of moto ondoso are not common knowledge. One way to help this situation is by creating awareness of the damaged canal walls. If more tourists and citizens were aware of the problems and knew that consistently riding taxis contributed to these problems, then they make change their travel routes. By creating awareness, it would promote taxi sharing and use of the shuttle system. The goal is to keep the public transportation system thriving, because it is a major asset to the city and vastly contributes to its economy. However, if riders chose to ride the taxis less frequently, then the wages could be increased, resulting in no adverse effects to the industry.
