Creating Incentives To Use Warehouse for Cargo Shipping

In our PQP meeting last week with Professor Carrera and Professor Higgins, we discussed methods of enhancing the cargo delivery system in Venice. The first step of building a warehouse has already been completed, yet the warehouse has not yet been used. Unfortunately, the cost of renting space is extremely high, about 500,000 euros. The idea of the warehouse is that goods, specifically belonging to shop owners, will be directly sent to the warehouse, instead of individually to each stop. From that point, boats will deliver goods to specific islands in mass sums, which would reduce the amount of stops each boat would have to make. With less stops, comes less wake which is the goal of this project. We plan on working with the shops team in order to figure out how many stops the cargo boats normally make, and if they can be reduced by using the warehouse system. With the large cost of renting space, the team will brainstorm ideas on how to come up with incentives and perks for shop owners to rent space in the warehouse. Since cargo boats tend to be very large, cutting down on the moto ondoso that they produce would vastly decrease the total produced in the city.
