Ogham Stones

The Ogham Stone from Lamogue is believed to be similar to those found scattered throughout Ireland, Britain, The Isle of Man, Cornwall, Scotland and Wales. Mainly standing stones their inscription contain the eareliest form of writing in Irish in which the Latin alphabet is adapted to a series of twenty letters of straight lines with notches carved on the edge of a piece of stone or wood. They date primarily from the fourth and fifth centuries. It is believed the ones in the old cemetery in Lamogue were originally standing at a location close by.
