The Spiritaul gifts did not cease after 70 AD CESSATIONS OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS AFTER 70 AD? http://preteristapostolicpentecostaloneness.50megs.com/ Please Donate it helps keep the ministry going.
The verse always cited is 1st Corinthians 13:10: "But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away."
That which is perfect is maturity, as explained by the following verse:
1 Corinthians 13:11: "When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things."
This is about the coming into perfection (maturity) of the New Covenant man. It is what Paul conveys to the Church at Corinthia. He was not saying they would lose spiritual understanding, lose spiritual knowledge or stop speaking through spiritual utterance, but that they would come to the revelation of the perfection of the New Covenant promises.
Paul tells the church at Corinthia that without the love of God in them the Holy Ghost would cease to work through them.
In their immaturity, they fail to operate beneficially for others in their congregation. Paul tells them that upon the day of the Old Covenant's destruction, they will receive the fullness of the promises. No longer will they work partially with immaturity, but they will grow to maturity with the fullness of revelation in Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 13:12: "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."
Numbers 12:6: "And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream."
Numbers 12:7: "My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house."
Numbers 12:8: "With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"
As Moses was faithful in all God's house, those of the first century church who endure to the end of the Old Heaven and Earth, will gain the fullness of the testimony of Jesus Christ, which is the Spirit of Prophecy.
They will no longer go to a grave and sleep, but they will be changed to never sleep. Those of the first century church who are faithful in all God's house, will also receive the fullness of knowledge, the fullness of understanding, and the fullness of utterance.
No more dark speeches, as we now behold the similitude of the LORD Jesus Christ in all His fullness and glory.
Here are places in history post 70 A.D where the gifts were used. The Testimony of History
The argument that the gifts of the Spirit ceased at the time of the last apostle or AD 70 isn't confirmed by history. In fact it is just the opposite. The witness of the early church fathers demonstrate that there has never been a cessation of the gifts. A single testimony could be just a misquote, but the overwhelming evidence creates a slam dunk case for the continuance of those gifts. Please don't gloss over this section but prayerfully allow the Holy Spirit to lead you:
Justyn Martyr circa. 165
"For numberless demoniacs throughout the whole world and in your city, many of our Christian men exorcising them in the Name of Jesus Christ, who was crucified under Pontius Pilate, have healed, and do heal, rendering helpless and driving the possessing devils out of the men, though they could not be cured by all the other exorcists and those who used incantations and drugs"
Irenaeus c. 130 - c. 200 Bishop of Lyons
"Those who are in truth his disciples, receiving grace from him, do in his name perform miracles, so as to promote the welfare of other men, according to the gift which each one has received from him. For some do certainly drive out devils, so that those who have thus been cleansed from evil spirits frequently both believe in Christ, and join themselves to the church. Others have foreknowledge of things to come: they see visions and utter prophetic expressions. Others still, heal the sick by laying their hands upon them and they are made whole. Yea, moreover as I have said, the dead have been raised up, and remain among us for many years."
Against Heresies II Ch XXXII
He wrote in his book "Against Heresies", Book V, vi.: "In like manner do we also hear many brethren in the church who possess prophetic gifts, and who through the Spirit speak all kinds of languages, and bring to light, for the general benefit, the hidden things of men and declare the mysteries of God, who also the apostles term spiritual."
"And some give evidence of their having received through their faith a marvelous power by the cures which they perform, invoking no other name over those who need their help than that of the God of all things, and of Jesus, along with a mention of His history. For by these means we too have seen many persons freed from grievous calamities and from distractions of mind and madness and countless other ills, which could be cured neither by men or devils"
Contra Celsum Book III Chapter 24
Mosheim c. 150
That those gifts of the Spirit which are commonly termed miraculous, were liberally imparted by Heaven to numbers of the Christians, not only in this, but likewise in the succeeding age, and more especially to those who devoted themselves to the propagation of the Gospel among the heathen, has on the faith of the concurrent testimony of the ancient Fathers, been hitherto universally credited throughout the Christian world. Nor does it appear that in out belief as to this we can with the least propriety be said to have embraced anything contrary to sound reason. Only let it be considered that the writers on whose testimony we rely were all of them men of gravity and worth, who could feel no inclination to deceive; that they were in part philosophers; that in point of residence and country they were separated far from each other; that their report is not grounded on mere hearsay, but upon what they state themselves to have witnessed with their own eyes; that they call upon God in the most solemn manner to attest its truth (vid Origen contra Ce1sum, L. 1. P.35), and lastly that they do not pretend to have themselves possessed the power of working miracles, but merely attribute it to others: and let me ask what reason there can possibly be assigned that should induce us to withhold from them our implicit confidence.
Historical Commentaries, Century II, sect 5, Note.
Origen c. 185 - circa. 254 "They expel evil spirits, and perform many cures, and foresee certain events ... the Name of Jesus ... can take away diseases."
Clement c.275
"Let them (young ministers) therefore with fasting and prayer, make their intercessions, and not with the well arranged and fitly ordered words of learning, but as men who have received the gift of healing confidently, to the glory of God. Epis C. XII
St. John Chrysostom circa. 347 - 407
"He that believeth on me the works that I do shall he do also, and greater works" etc. appeals to the miracles recorded in the Acts of the Apostles in proof of the truth of this promise. But if anyone assert that these were mere smoke and a fictitious wonder unworthy of credit, let us view those of the present day which are calculated both to stop and to put to shame the blaspheming mouth, and to check the unbridled tongue. For throughout our whole habitable world, there is not a country, nation nor a city, where these wonders are not commonly spoken of, which if figments, would never have occasioned so much admiration. And you, yourselves, indeed, might testify to this. For we shall have no occasion to receive confirmation of what we assert from others, seeing that you yourselves, our opponents, supply us therewith.

St. Augustine of Hippo c. 354-430
We still do what the apostles did when they laid hands on the Samaritans and called down the Holy Spirit on them in the laying-on of hands. It is expected that converts should speak with new tongues."
"Significantly, St. Augustine in his early writings claimed that healing had ceased in the church and was no longer necessary. But experiences in his own life changed his mind. Notably, in his diocese nearly seventy attested miracles took place within a space in two years. In 427, just three years before he died, Augustine, in his book "Retractions" refuted what he had published in his early writings (De Vera Religione) about the age of miracles being past, and described miraculous cures which he had seen and which were enough to change his mind. "Many heathen amongst us are being healed by Christians from whatever sickness they have, so abundant are miracles in our midst" Christlieb - Modern Doubt p.321
Martin Luther
Some six years before his death Luther experienced a miracle after praying for his friend Me1anchthon who was dying. Five years later, in response to a request for help with a mentally ill man, Luther wrote instructions for a healing service based upon the letter of James adding, "This is what we do, and that we have been accustomed to do, for a cabinetmaker here was similarly afflicted and we cured him by prayer in Christ's Name." Perhaps like Augustine, Luther became more aware of the healing power of the Spirit in his later years. By faith alone - the life of Martin Luther - W J Kooiman
Many more examples can be provided. These stories of respected historical leaders, from different periods of history and different geographical areas all provide common sense evidence that the gifts never ceased.
This is an excerpt from one of my favorite articles https://www.anewdaydawning.com/blog-1/2016/1/6/yes-there-were-gifts-of-the-spirit-after-ad-70AD
Separate from the above, I wrote how I feel about the gifts.-
Many people believe the gifts of the spirit are done away with. Most Preterists believe the gifts of the spirit ended in 70 A.D. I am a Preterist and I have a different outlook on the gifts of the spirit than most do. Before you can understand the gifts you have to understand the following-
A. Think about the scripture that says to baptize in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit. All three have one thing in common, one name. I will give you an example. I am a daughter, a sister and an aunt, but I am one person and my name is Thracia. Jesus is the name of the son, so we know the name of the father and holy spirit is Jesus as well. Not to mention the fact that the disciples only baptized in Jesus name. Many people ask “why did he pray to himself?” It was because Jesus was an example for us. Also part of him that was flesh was praying to the part of him that was God in the flesh. In the old testament the bible says “Hear O Israel the Lord our God is one Lord.” In the new testament it says “Even demons know that the Lord is one God and tremble.” In the OT Israel was promised that God would come to earth and be their king. God robbed himself in flesh and came to earth. The bible says “In the beginning was the word and the word was made flesh and dwelt among us.” Jesus was there from the very beginning. When he was born he was called Emanuel meaning God with us. Jesus made it very clear in the OT that he didn't want to dwell in a temple made by hands. He also in the NT called the saints “his temple.” Why? Because Jesus was going to come in the form of the holy spirit and dwell within man. Another thing I am made up of a body, soul and spirit, but I am one person. My point is Jesus and God the father and the holy spirit are one. The reason I put all of this together is because we cannot answer the below question without understanding that Jesus is the Father Son and Holy spirit all in one.
In 1 Cor.12:3 it says, No one can say Jesus is Lord except by the holy spirit
If you believe that the Lord heals people today, but its not a gift, then I ask you to consider the following.
1.First of all we need to stop and think about the disciples. Did the disciples using the gifts of the spirit heal people by their power or by Jesus' power?
Answer: Obviously, it wasn't by their own power, but by the power of the holy spirit. Jesus is the the holy spirit. So, when we pray today for someone to be healed and they are healed it is by the power of Jesus says those who do not believe in the gifts for today. Then there are those who do say it is by the gift of the holy spirit, so what is the difference between the healings that took place back then by the gift of the holy Spirit and today when Jesus who is the holy spirit heals them? Nothing is. Jesus healed them back them and he heals them today. Those who don't believe in the gifts for today say-
Most people can't just go in and pray for someone to be unparalyzed or them to be cancer free and then be made whole. I know myself I have been healed many times from many serious illnesses. I've had doctors send me home to die not just once, but church people prayed for me and I was made whole. Now it took awhile before the complete healing to manifest but it was still a healing. I have been paralyzed for almost 20 years and people say “yeah, but God hasn't unparalyzed you. I want everyone to consider the man at the gate beautiful who was crippled and he begged for alms everyday and I'm sure the disciples passed him a lot, but one day the disciple Peter turned around and said “As much as lies within me rise and walk and he jumped up and was whole. The reason was, because that was his time that God chose to give him a miracle.
I know of a girl who was prayed for recently in Tennessee and she was paralyzed like me and she got up whole. Just like in the bible days. Jesus didn't heal everyone. They had to have faith and it had to be his timing. I watched a woman go to the alter and the assistant pastor started looking like he was wrapping something around his arm and the woman got sick and threw up. Then the assistant pastor went to the microphone and said that God had showed him a demonic snake in the womans stomach and God took his arm and started wrapping the snake around his arm and out of hers and then she threw up, because the demon was out of her. Afterwords she said she had stomach cancer. The assistant pastor was like “you HAD stomach cancer, not anymore. Go back to the doctor.” She came back a few weeks later and told him that the doctor said that she did not have cancer. There are more miracles and healings that take place all across this world. It is just not something you hear about in the news.
The problem is here in America there is very little faith, because we are so use to having doctors to run to for every little things. I personally have been healed of Staph infection, MRSA,pseudomonas. I was bit by a brown recluse spider and instead of losing most of my foot and leg God healed me and I don't even have a bad scar from the bite. When I was in a car accident and broke my neck I prayed for God to get a car off of my legs and I was on flat ground and instantly he rolled the car off of my legs. I had a seizure from getting off some medication and they ran a test on my brain and said I had some brain damage. I lost a lot of my memory. The church prayed for me and I got my memory back and a few years later I had the same test run and the doctors said “whoever told you that you have brain damage was crazy. There is nothing wrong with your brain.” I didn't even tell him what happened. I knew he wouldn't believe it. My mom was healed of breast cancer, my pastor was having some problems and he went to the doctor and was told he had colon cancer and he chose to believe God and he prayed and he did nothing else. The problem stopped. He went back to the doctor and the doctor was amazed that he was cancer free. Before my pastor was saved he was wild. As a result he found out years later he had hepatitis C and it was a bad case. My moms pastor came off the pulpit and told a woman he felt like he was suppose to pray for her leg and foot that she couldn’t walk on. The church prayed and he no longer has it. He prayed and she said she began to feel heat go through it. She stood up and walked without any problems. There are many more instances, but my point is God still heals and does miracles using his gift s when his church people ask and pray with faith. If it is his timing and will.
What happened in 70 A.D was Satan and his demons lost their power. I will give an example. They can attack Gods people. I have prayed and had one growl at me, but at the name of Jesus they had to flee. Those who attacked the church at the name of Jesus have to flee as well. Also in 70 A.D the law passed and the new covenant was established. God brought his people back to spiritual life which was lost in the garden of Eden.
Jesus came preaching the new covenant place of salvation. The gifts of the spirit was just part of the power given to the church with this new covenant, but until the law was completely done away with the new couldn't be completely established. The gifts of the spirit is part of the new covenant power that we have since Jesus came. It wasn't just for 30-70 A.D. Otherwise there would be NO healings and NO miracles and NO hope if there was anything wrong with you or your family. You can't say Jesus did it back then in the form of gifts, but today if it happens its just Jesus doing them and not the gifts being used. The bible says salvation and eternal life are gifts, so if the gifts have passed then you must believe you can't be saved and have eternal life with Jesus Christ that those also were just for the people living in 30-70 A.D. You can't have it both ways.
