”There are also celestial bodies (sōma) and terrestrial bodies (sōma); but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.”
Paul, as ever, uses the Greek word, sōma (body/ bodies), in its mundane sense. That is, to describe physical entities.
Here he refers to physical “bodies,” which are above and below.
Verse 41
[ In order to preserve the integrity of ‘audience relevance’ no other NT epistles are cited. ]
”There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.”
Paul believed that the saints would soon be made like Christ. He was the “firstfruits,” they the “harvest.”
However, at the time of writing Christ was in Heaven (and thus Paul described Him as a “heavenly Man”), and they were on earth (and thus Paul described them as men of “dust”). Albeit, at the “last trump” they would be “changed”/“transformed” and made like Christ (see; vs.20-22, 48-49, 51-52).
In this verse Paul tries to explain that although the saints would receive the same kind of “body” as Christ’s, they would “differ” in glory. Just as other physical entities “differ” in glory (“sun,” “moon,” “stars,” etc).
