Post date: Jun 25, 2016 2:34:06 AM

Before and after cleaning the No.4 exhaust valve. This valve was covered in thick carbon buildup and was preventing the valve from seating in the closed position. The engine was effectively running on only three out of four cylinders before the rebuild!

Bottom view of the engine head after cleaning out carbon buildup. The larger valve ports are the intake and the smaller ports are the exhaust.

Closeup view of the No. 3 and 4 cylinder valve ports. The small circular areas above the valves are the combustion chambers where the diesel fuel is injected and auto-ignition of the fuel begins once the piston reaches the top of the compression stroke. This head is stamped 2222 and each combustion chamber is also stamped with a 2.
