It is essential for players to use more than their legs as they propel off the floor to hit. In our weekly hitting lessons at Sokol Volleyball, we spend a lot of time teaching the players how to hold their arms in a neutral position while they take their first step. This allows the arms to move into the back swing position at the same time the legs load to jump. Mike Schall, coach at Triangle Volleyball Club in NC, offers tips on how players can use their arms to improve their jump. You will see that an approach and a strong attack are enhanced by a great back swing.
