Hi Everyone,

I decided to make the front page of my web site shorter and fill it with a briefer description of my life recently. Here are the links to the previous home page, a family photo album, the Rambo Family Tree and other pages.

The most recent major event was the death of my mother on July 3, 2001. It is tough to lose a parent. Mom had a nearly symptom-free heart attack during our trip to Hawaii this February. A bypass operation failed and she died of complications four difficult months later. I am comforted by the pleasure of seeing her daily all winter and during most of her decline. A week before she died I asked myself whether there was anything I wanted to do for her, tell her, or ask her - and drew only blanks.

I am currently renting a house in Staunton, Illinois. I was mildly depressed after Mom's death although I blame the Midwest heat and humidity, coupled with living in the cluttered mess resulting from moving four times since May. Staunton has nothing much to recommend it except Jubelt's bakery, the hospital, and the nursing home where Mom died. On the positive side, I've gotten my 6'x12' HO model train layout running.

I did cure the blahs by motorcycling to a wedding in D.C. on Sept. 23rd, to New Hampshire for leaf peeping until Oct. 25th, to West Virginia, to Annapolis, to South Carolina, and back through Ohio on my return to Staunton, arriving here on Dec. 16.

I hadn't collected my e-mail since 8/2/2001 and both AOL and hotmail discarded my messages. If you sent me a message within that time period, I didn't receive it. My apologies. I feel that both AOL and Hotmail blindsided me on this issue. I am complaining, but both services lie by saying they cannot do anything for me.

My job afforded me an apartment in Olympia, Washington from mid-April to mid-June. That is one beautiful place with pleasant temperatures. It looks like an ideal city to invest in a house downtown. I spent August in Silver Spring, Maryland in training for the newer computer software techniques. Unfortunately I don't have the patience for the popular, modern click, fish, and thrash approach to learning. On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed running through the woods daily with Xena the dog. I expect my employment demands to diminish soon which will enable me to finish phase one of the Rambo genealogy this winter. With luck I'll also get all my possessions stored, the junk sold, and get myself back into open-road motorcycling "for the rest of my life."

I did get to see aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws in Keosauqua, Iowa and elsewhere on and after July 4th this year. My relatives are interesting, insightful, and lots of fun. NOTICE TO ALL RELATIVES: our Rambo family reunion is planned for July 4th at the lodge in Lacy Keosauqua State Park.

Basketball went very well this year, both in Belleville until April 1 and in Olympia. The only problem is that I've lost ALL the spring in my legs. I had been disappointed that my running hadn't improved despite fine dedication, consistency, and effort. I think I've got partially plugged arteries slowing me down, so am taking half an aspirin daily to see if that helps. Then on Sept. 12th I ran a mile in 6:29 - a huge improvement, so I'm much happier. My plantar facitis is much improved thanks to exercises Marsha recommended. My carpal tunnel is not noticeable as long as I take Glucosamine Sulfate with MSM consistently. All in all, I'm delighted to be pain-free for the first time in several years.

That is it for the front page. I do apologize for writing so seldom these last few years. I just don't write when I am depressed and when I am not depressed the genealogy and job and "things" keep me busy, busy, busy. My e-mail address is RSBeatty@gmail.com.
