plans for 2004

Ron Beatty's plans for 2004, last updated 27 January 2004

This year my plans are nearly a carbon copy of my plans for last year: finish the Rambo genealogy in early spring, hike the Appalachian Trail all summer and fall, and spend the winter with my friend Bill in the Florida Keys. (In other words I didn't finish the Rambo book all last year despite spending tremendous time and effort in the attempt; and I didn't even set foot on the Appalachian Trail.)

Big accomplishment, I did set foot for about 200 yards on the AT in 2004.

I always have lots of plans. Some I do on time, others late, most get postponed indefinitely. I've learned not to have my surface mail forwarded to me where I expect to be in the future since occasionally I never get to where I expect to be, much less on time.

This winter I'm in the Florida Keys visiting Bill. He is a good friend and a nice guy who certainly does NOT deserve the mysterious ailment which is afflicting him. When I arrived here, the plan was to provide Bill company while finishing The Rambo Family Tree genealogy. Once I saw how he is suffering, I've changed my mind and am trying to convince him to go elsewhere for effective diagnosis and treatment. I'll go with him of course.

Same old, same old. Bill went to Columbus, Ohio, but is no better.

The Rambo book has been on the back burner while I wrote the travelog about the trip getting here this winter. Now I need to mail some correspondance and research financial investments before resuming Rambo book compulsive/obsessive behavior. I still do plan to finish the book before moving on to any other major projects.

I'm still behind in correspondance & the financial stuff is neglected too.

That said, I've already started the systems analysis and design of the next computer project, a genealogical index of a multitude of genealogical and historical books. I'll use Java to put the index onto a website and charge $.50 per name for people to look up their genealogical names in ALL the books indexed at once. I've got a buddy or two who want to learn Java, and this site will develop following their learning curve ... at least until I finish the Rambo genealogy.

Their interest flagged & that project is on back burner.

If we can get Bill well by spring, I'll spend another couple of weeks with the Gowdys in Columbia doing yard work before I start hiking the Appalachian Trail. I certainly am curious to see if the Johnson grass is entirely gone this spring.

Johnson Grass Wars proceeding with satisfactory results.
