Christmas letter 1988

September 10, 1989

Dear Friends,

Please notice the return address in Big Pine Key, Florida and mail letters to me there. The Post Office is once again reliable about delivering my mail to that address. Never again will I ask them to forward things to me. The Florida Keys were still tropical, beautiful and warm when I was there for a week in May of 1989. I plan to spend more time on Big Pine Key this year.

I have again traveled many pleasant miles through our beautiful country. My exercise program continues with outstanding results (and efforts). Camping trips in New Mexico, California, Arizona and Colorado really trimmed me down. I even went rafting for the first time near Chama, New Mexico. The genealogy expeditions were fruitful. I met a new cousin in Fort Wayne, Indiana and discovered a few "new" ancestors in Ohio. My computer projects have been proceeding satisfactorily. The psychiatrist's billing program is ready for Beta testing. I am using the genealogy program in Alpha testing at this time.

I met a beautiful outdoorsy woman on a Sierra Club trip. She invited me to visit her in Oakland, CA. Unfortunately she is a high stress feminist who is an expert at denial. She can do no wrong, make no mistakes, admit to nothing with negative connotations. She often tried to convince her cat to scratch me. I was also first hand witness to one particular visit by her cousin. She was a welcoming hostess who kept muttering behind his back, "When is he going to leave. I wish he'd go."

One month later John Toivonen's wife, Holly, introduced me to a nice nurse. I dated the nurse all last winter. She works nights and takes pre-med classes at Santa Monica Community College. We eventually found that her schedule didn't leave enough time for me. Fortunately the nurse is a sweet girl who is beautiful and intelligent. Although our romance did not end in matrimony, it does continue as a good friendship. I thank her for restoring my enthusiam about meeting women and making new friends. Please continue to introduce me to nice, sweet, cheerful and intelligent women who may be a good match for me.

These two years have not been my best. I visited several close friends and relatives for a week or more. I worked all day, every day for two of my hosts. In all but one case, I left feeling unappreciated and unwelcome. In all cases, the woman of the house conveyed negative messages without ever talking about any problems or discomforts. I had trusted them to speak their minds as friends do. I felt discouraged and unappreciated. I may have finally learned that dead fish and houseguests stink after three days. Please remind me if I visit for more than three days. I have run into too many women in the last year who won't speak their minds. On the other hand, I often censor my speach when it seems diplomatic.

My mailing list has passed 100 people. Some of you seldom write. For you I have enclosed a stamped postcard, addressed to me. Please drop it into a mailbox to show that you still live. Fill in the boxes if you have time.

So I again wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May the coming years bring you peace and contentment.
