Ron Beatty's Web Page

I am a genealogist, basketball player, motorcycle rider, traveler, computer programmer, weirdo, etc.

Last updated 8 July 2000, e-mail me at RSBeatty@gmail.com

Here are my family photo album, travelogues, the Rambo book, and my resume. I am still developing pages for ice cream parlors and railroads.

Everyone who knows me be seated, take a deep breath, and prepare for the unexpected. I got a job! It was an accident. I stopped in Washington, D.C. to see a former boss the very day after he landed a new contract to develop a "global criminal justice information system." I'm an expert. That is exactly the work I did for the courts in New Mexico fifteen years ago.

Consequently my plans for researching genealogy all over the country, visiting friends in New England & elsewhere, motorcycling in Ohio & the West, hiking in Utah & New Mexico, and general pursuit of daily enjoyments are all delayed for the next eight months at least.

On the other hand, my athletics and genealogy are both developing nicely. The guys I live with (and work with) own a house immediately adjacent to Martin Luther King, Jr. Park in Silver Spring, MD. This huge park has lots of woods & deer, a stream-side running path that goes for miles, a lake, basketball courts, swimming pool, ball diamonds and lots and lots of open area. I finally realized that I don't have to run very much any more. I am finally in good enough shape that I can simply run over the the basketball courts and play every day. My jump shot is beginning to deadly again and I feel like I'm getting higher than a bunny hop.

My genealogy project, the Rambo Family Tree, is progressing nicely. I've sent half a hundred letters to cousins soliciting information and have received quite a bit. I've been updating the book with information sent me by cousins via e-mail. I've nearly caught up to date with genealogical e-mail and am updating the book files on my Rambo web page. I still have an 8-inch stack of paper materials to add, so I won't be bored soon. If you are a Rambo cousin, please send me information to add to the book before the final cut-off date, 1 Mar 2001. The other genealogy families of exceptional interest are Briney, Camblin, Mechem, Overturff, and Venus.

I haven't timed my running since the winter, so my fastest mile so far this year is still 7:20. I did join my brother Dean in running a 10K in Norfolk the day after my 53rd birthday. It was awfully hot and we were both disappointed with our times.

My current motorcycle is a 1973 BMW R75/5, 750cc. Motorcycle helmets are required in all states hereabouts, so I don't ride it much. After a month of parking my trusty, rusty 1982 15-passenger Dodge RAM van, "Home," on the street in front of their property, my roommates requested that I park her in storage to quiet the neighbors complaints. So both vehicles still just sit and rust.

I like an occasional quote, but never remember the author. Does anyone remember who said something like, "A happy man is not someone in a pleasant circumstance, but rather someone who enjoys a cheerful philosophy."

Here is a link to my resume. I'd like a cute little GIF, but bet MIT won't allow me to use their seal;

a link to a page for downloading the Rambo book and my genealogical program,

a link to this years' sketchy travel plans and several old travelogs. I'd sure like to show a map of the U.S. with color coded routes and a big "Ron Beatty is here logo."

a link to lists of ice cream parlors and railroading sites,

a link to a family photo album,

a link to super simple (incomplete) instructions for building and uploading a web page,

and a link to a (not even started) math drill for kids.

I guess I need to learn how to encapsulate some of this into smaller, clickable windows next.

My e-mail address is RSBeatty@gmail.com. I ignore e-mail whenever I'm busy elsewise, sometimes for a month or two. (Recently I've been much more prompt, answering most emails with a week or two.) Be patient, I will respond eventually. Please don't send attachments as AOL deletes those after ten days. Besides, I don't have any room on my hard drive; neither do I have a program to view photos, nor a sound card to play audio. Besides #2, AOL is notorious for clobbering photo files.
