2021 Tournament Results

Aliante Golf Course

This year, 17 new golfers were introduced to the tournament with 72 returning players. For the first time, two daughters of players were added.

Day One's 2-Man Scramble/Alternate Shot event at Aliante Golf Resort started out a little cool and in the dark as teams arrived at the course. Once the course opened, the sun appeared, weather warmed up, and the tournament began in a shotgun start. The course was in good condition.

The A-flight teams played alternate shot while the B-flight teams played the modified scramble format. Team Pat came out on top (10-8-3).

After the round, lunch was held at the Aliante Hotel and Casino ballroom. As part of their reward for winning, Team Pat received a free lunch paid for by Team Lenny and first rights to the food line.

Closest to the pin winners: Kevin Lee, Kevin Leong, Stan Honda, and Bobby Ryono were awarded $100+.

Paiute Sun Mountain course

Day Two's Individual event took place at the Paiute Golf Sun Mountain course. 38 matches were spread out over 10 holes. The weather was a little cool to start, but turned out to be perfect, with little to no wind. The course was in great condition and the best of the three locations.

Team Pat took Day 2 by winning 19-15-4 and stretching out the lead.

There was no luncheon scheduled, so the usual lunch wager was replaced with a $20/person gambling fund to be used by the Day 2 winning captain. The captain was required to wager at least half the total for the team. Captain Pat wagered the entire amount ($760) on black on roulette with the intent to redistribute the winnings to all the golfers on both teams. Unfortunately, the winning number was red, but the intent for the winnings was very admirable.

Closest to the pin winners: Cory Morinishi, Tom Kurata, Kyle Suezaki, Larry Taylor

Primm Valley Lakes course

High wind warnings were in effect for late-morning of the 2-Man Better Ball event on Day Three at the Primm Valley Lakes course. The weather was fine with about 4 or 5 holes to go, then the 40-60 mile/hr winds kicked in and made finishing very difficult. Two of the CTTP sheets were blown away, so Donald had to follow up with people to determine the winners.

The golf course was not in good shape. Some of the fairways seemed to be a little long and many of the greens were patchy with some having large areas of grass removed. Hopefully, the greens did not impact the outcome of a match.

Amazingly, the matches on the last day ended in a tie, 9-9-3. For the three round tournament, Team Pat won by a score of 85-77.

Closest to the pin winners: Pat Smith, Richard Murase, Rick Hashimoto, Lance Nakata

There was a somber mood over this years tournament as members reflected on the passing of one of our original Ronin Ryder Cup brothers Mel Hashimoto.

In his honor, a flag was created and displayed on Rick Hashimoto's cart on Day 1 at Aliante. Mel was notorious for trying to finish his rounds as quick as possible to get back to the clubhouse. So after the Day 1, a person from the first group to finish the round would carry the flag on the following day.

Mel, we miss your humor and brotherhood...
