The original tournaments (from 1997-2003) were a best of seven between LA County and Orange County. Players were assigned to one team and never changed teams during those years. Both LA County and Orange County were very evenly matched with no team ever winning more than one tournament in a row. Orange County would win the 7th and deciding tournament in 2003.
In 2004, members started to get moved around so that they could play with others previously on the opposite team. New players began to be added and the format changed from best of seven years to best of three years. Eventually, this was also changed so that team membership was realigned annually.
