After three days and 67 matches, the 20th season of the Ronin Ryder Cup tournament ends in a tie!

There were so many events this year, it was hard to get any sleep. 3 days of golf (4 for some), the 4 session slot tournament, anniversary banquet, and poker tournament kept everyone pretty busy all weekend.

Team LA was captained by Ronin Ryder Cup President Donald Toda. Team OC/World team was captained by another original member, Mitch Higa, winner of the 1st Ronin Ryder Cup. Both were reprising their roles as the captains of the first Ronin Ryder Cup back in 1997.

Team LA won Day 1, 21-13 at Siena for an early lead. LA went for 7 wins, 3 losses, and 7 ties.

After the round, the players rushed back to the Main Street Hotel and Casino to meet up with friends and family to participate in the 1st Annual Grandma Memorial Slot Tournament. Three qualifying sessions were played prior to the banquet. The 30 qualifiers would return after dinner to play the final round.

The 20th anniversary dinner was held in the outside banquet room at Main Street. By winning Day 1, Team LA had first service honors at the banquet. It worked out well for both teams since Team LA eats much more than Team OC/World. There was so much food, you had to go back for seconds to try everything (again, good for the LA team).

Dinner guests were greeted at the banquet room and players were presented with a Ronin Ryder Cup 20th Anniversary shirt. Team President Donald Toda presided over the festivities. Donald kept things moving while gently needling some of the players. Special thanks to all the people that helped setup banquet, greet guests, provide gifts, contribute prizes for the raffle, and making the dinner very memorable.

Team OC/World edged out Team LA on Day 2 by a score of 18-16 at Bear's Best, winning 9 and losing 8 with no ties.

As is tradition, the losing team pays for lunch, so Team LA treated Team OC/World to the buffet lunch at Main Street.

The Ronin Ryder Cup poker tournament that was missing last year returned to the activities in 2017. Sun Coast was the host casino for this years event. 33 players participated in the event. Dominating the final table, Gary Umetsu ran away with the event to become the RRC champion for 2017.

The Day 3 Singles matches were held at TPC Summerlin, first time course for the tournament. 33 matches ended with Team OC/World winning 52.5 to 46.4 (15 wins, 13 losses, 5 ties).

First time in RRC history that there was a tie. There will be some discussion on what to put on the trophy, but with the family and friends that surrounded the event this year, it seems only fitting.
