Magic 1990 - 1998

Magic 828 was launched by Roger Kirk at 8:28am on 17th July 1990 and the first song played was Magical Mystery Tour, by The Beatles. The strapline was 'The All Time Great Music Station', as it specialised in playing music from the 50's, 60's and 70's.

The Magic 828 name was created by Bob Preedy, who was a presenter on Radio Aire at the time.

From October 1990, following the closure of the overnight sustaining service 'The Superstation', Andy Siddell took over evenings and Mike Vitti presented Niteflight (simulcast with Aire between 1am and 6am).

Weekend presenters included Johnny Moran, Steve Warren, Kev Roberts, David Hamilton and Noddy Holder (with the 70's Show).

Tony moved over to Radio Aire FM in late 1992 using the name Tony Collins. He returned to Magic 828 in the 2000's to present some weekend shows.

Peter Tait moved to Breakfast in 1992 following Mark Jones' departure, where he remained until 2002 and Andy Siddell took over the Drive show. Graham Thornton (the first presenter on Radio Aire in 1981) hosted Evenings for a while, until Kev Roberts took over the programme.

By 1996, the line-up had changed slightly, with the non-stop music shows being removed from the schedule. Carl Kingston had joined the station from Radio Aire FM and Steve Warren covered overnights.
