Dr. Della Brown White

Della Brown White, Ph.D. is a Program Director in the Division of Special Populations at the NICHD. Dr. White received her B.S. in chemistry from Alabama State University and earned her Ph.D. in health education/health promotion at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed postdoctoral training in public health genomics within the Social and Behavioral Research Branch, Division of Intramural Research at the National Human Genome Research Institute. Dr. White’s overall research interest is in reducing health disparities among minority and underserved populations. Specifically, her work has focused on two primary areas: (1) understanding social and cultural factors that influence access to and participation in existing (e.g., weight loss interventions) and emerging (e.g., genetic testing) health technologies; and (2) examining factors that influence health outcomes among minorities participating in health behavior change interventions. Within the Division of Special Populations, Dr. White’s research focuses on disparate maternal and child health outcomes, the role of gene-environment interactions in disparate health outcomes, and the use of community-based participatory research to promote health among minority and underserved populations.
