U.S. Passport

U. S. Citizens entering Canada and returning to the United States by air will need a U. S. passport. A U. S. passport or a U. S. passport card will be required for U. S. Citizens traveling by land or sea. The passport card may not be used to travel by air. Otherwise, it carries the rights and privileges of the U. S. passport and is adjudicated to the exact same standards.

There are over 9,400 facilities accepting passport applications, such as your local post office, municipal office, courthouse, library, etc. Please see Where to Apply for Passports Nationwide for information on the locations of Passport Acceptance Facilities near you.

If you apply today at a Passport Acceptance Facility or by mail (for renewals), they will process your application in approximately 3 weeks from the time of application. If expedited service is required, they will process your application within two weeks. You must include the application form, your social security number, evidence of U. S. citizenship (previously issued passport, birth certificate, etc.), a present identification, two passport photos, and both the application ($75 ) and the execution fee ($25 for new applications, $0 for renewals). If expedited service is required, an extra $60 fee applies.
