Description
Bats are a racial blend of Dwarfs and Aarakocra. The average Bat stands about five feet tall and has a wingspan of 10 feet. Halfway along the edge of each wing is a hand with three dwarf-sized fingers and an opposable thumb. An elongated fourth finger extends the length of the wing and locks in place during flight. The hands cannot grasp while flying, but are nearly as useful as dwarven hands when a bat is perched and its wings folded back. Their powerful legs end in four sharp talons. These humanoids have the stocky nature of their dwarven ancestors. At first glance most Bats look like short, dark Aarakocra. The plumage color for all bats is black.
History
By all accounts Bats are rare. The romantic meeting of Aarakocra and Dwarf is nearly unheard. In addition, while they are born male and female, they are all born sterile.
Those that do exist are often good at heart but are a little monstrous in appearance, so they have been targets of jokes and subject of bardic tales.
